10 Little Indians and so on . . .

It was a lovely beginning of 2006. Sherman Alexie's book, a collection of short stories lead to some provocative discussion. Plus there was food, lots of it. Thanks for the beautiful Brianna for hosting it! I think we all seemed to like "What you Pawn I will Redeem," which first appeared in the New Yorker, about a drunk who seeks to get back his grandmother's head dress. We had a debate about the "Do Not Go Gentle" with its "chocolate thunder," you'll have to read it to find out. I think it was, at the very least, a nice glimpse into a little bit of Native American sensibilities, while certainly not representative of all Indians. Most people liked the first story, "The Search Engine," about a college student's search for a Spokane poet. Well worth the read.

Next on the agenda, James Baldwin's "Going to Meet the Man," on 2/20. See you all then and happy reading!
